Clayton Giles A remarkable EP with just one person, a superb jazz singer who accompanies herself on double bass. Her phrasing with voice and instrument is impeccable, and she never hits a sour note. She gets more percussion, melody, hooks and subtleties out of a stripped-down pairing of one voice and one instrument than I could ever have imagined. Favorite track: Chuck E's In Love.

Steve Lawson An amazing record by a brilliant musician and exquisite human. I've had these songs for quite a while, but NEEDED to have this in my bandcamp collection, so I can tell you all just how good it is and how much you need to hear it. One of the best bass/voice recordings I've ever come across.

Listen and buy. :) Favorite track: Chuck E's In Love.

about

One woman's initial exploration of solo double bass/voice. This is an unusual selection of covers specifically arranged for voice and bass. The songs were requested via her email list and Facebook community.

This album features much loved music Australian music festival favourite double-bass player Liz Frencham, now settled in country Victoria. She studied jazz bass at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and went on to hone her considerable talents with festival favourites Jigzag, Fred Smith, Gregory Page, Miriam Leiberman, Mic Conway, Chris While and Julie Matthews, Wouter Kellerman, Dev'lish Mary, Alanna and Alicia, and Jimmy the Fish.

Here she is for the first time completely unadorned. Just voice and double-bass, recorded in her living room in the winter of 2012 playing her way through a recent musical heart-break.

The covers range from the more well known, upbeat "Love Cats" by The Cure, to the more obscure soul ballad "Death By Chocolate" by talented fellow Australian Sia. Every creak, and faltering breath is evident in the naked glory of a girl holding on to her double bass for dear life and singing her heart out.
